Growing In Christ

Day 1: Light of the World

Read: Start by reading John 1:1–4 out loud a few times.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind” (John 1:1–4 NIV).

Meditate: What words are especially meaningful to you today?

Did God really make us on purpose and for a purpose?

Did Someone Steal the Dove of Peace?

I had been thinking about the lack of peace in our world this year, and then a feeling of peace overwhelmed my thoughts as I walked through the snow on Friday. We were surprised by what some called a perfect snow. It fell thick on the ground but not on the roads, and we enjoyed watching the soft flakes fall all day.

Sometimes we wonder where peace can be found when we look at our world.

Generous or Stingy? Do you give away encouraging words?

We took our one-year-old grandson for his first ride on the Reindeer Carousel in our mall last Thursday. Many people don’t like the commercialism of the Christmas season and the fact that the Reindeer Carousel was already up and running on November 9. But I like this early reminder that Christmas is fast approaching, which causes me to ponder life, giving, and Christ’s return.
