A Sense of Call to Leadership: When Knowing His Voice Matters

Being in a relationship indicates communication between two people. Imagine going to Facebook and changing your status to say that you are “in a relationship” when only one party agrees to those terms. You might expect some taunting or teasing for such a public declaration.

In a growing relationship with Christ, we should expect two-way communication. The Bible compares a relationship with Christ to the way a bride relates to a groom. Following Christ is a serious matter and indicates that both parties be involved intimately. Those in relationships know one another well.

Uncovering the Calm in Chaos

At least once a week I sit and find a calm moment on a bench dedicated to a godly woman I never met, Kaye Shipley. I came to know who she was through her husband, Mark, who didn’t know me, but still drove out of his way to pick me up in St. Louis. Oddly, I met him again in the parking lot of the national WMU building in Birmingham, Alabama. That’s how I learned about the family connection to the bench in the memorial garden at our office.

Attracting People to Christ: Your Signature Scent

Smells affect us in different ways. In our little neighborhood, a steak grilling at the neighbor’s house makes us want to invite ourselves to dinner. The connection between memory and our sense of smell allows us to associate places and events with different scents. I like the smell of cinnamon at Christmas and watermelon in the summer, but there are certain smells that trigger bad memories and even danger, such as the smell associated with natural gas.
